Invariably, the vast majority of Freshers will be pleasantly surprised. The university or college will be populated by a wide variety of people from various walks of life with a wide range of views and opinions. Look beyond the original boundaries of your home or residence halls, the setting will be many more people who share similar interests to yourself. Some of the advice we have received from other students:
1. Meet as many people as you can, introduce yourself, smile and confidence. Everyone is in the same boat, if he or she seems to be or not.
2. Be yourself. True friends will want to know who you are, warts and all!
3. Keep your opinion of yourself to others until you know who you can trust
4. Take your laundry to the laundry. Do not put it all home to the mother on Horus. It will not really want to see five black bags minging.
5. Fun
6. Join a few companies in the first week awards. If you are not sure about you, but are interested in receiving an e-mail contact / For further details later. Are sometimes difficult to find the right contacts later, it’s a great place.
7. Phone home and let your family, you’re all right (even if you do not feel right). They are probably more worried than you are.
8. Everyone feels at least a little homesick at first, worried or simply a decision. Talk to new friends, you feel you can trust, and perhaps write / call friends at home.
9. You’re at Uni last few years, make the most of it is over before you know it. Then you miss the freedom and long vacations.
10. Stay in touch with family and friends at home, e-mail is the easiest.
11. Do not hang out with a small group to ignore everyone. You miss the opportunity for other good friends.
12. Seriously not careless with your money – it’s the little things here and there there is a way to quickly empty your bank account!
13. Do not let peer pressure you into a beer monster, you do not drink all the time. When friends have a problem with your drinks when you want, they probably are not the friends you need. Drinking soda is easier on the pocket, not to mention health.
14. sessions of beer .. It’s a good idea to leave the beer until the weekend when you do not so much to meet the concerns next.
15. Do not get all of repressed. Talk to someone, family and friends or a hotline for students. Far from home, especially for the first time can feel very alone and lost. Talking about everything it usually puts in perspective.
16. Cooking. The curry house on the corner can make a student promotions. burgers to take away is a good option if you have a lot of work to do. Try it. Get some basic concepts in the salt, pepper, sauce mix, (goes with everything). If you share the house, can chip in Veg stews are pretty easy, gut-filling and cheap, especially if you look at the Fruit Shop. Ask a bookstore catering to students, of course! It will, step by step.
17. If you opt for the night. Take as many as you want, or if you want to spend. It is very easy for a few beers if you already have some.
18. Clubs and things, almost all human rights issues or participation in a pay-as you-go-.
19. Enjoy your first year as best you can, you’re cooler than once.
20. De”B”woord When a student loan will affect your bank balance, the best thing to do is pass, it’s just wait to be used. When half of that, you have sort of cash in the panic along the line. Remember there are always things that you need that you’re not in the budget, things that you simply ignore – shampoo, photocopies, and toothpaste.
